Their trick is to go to courts and LIE! They tell the court they served you papers when they did not! The courts then find in their favor, they sue you for the original amount plus 28% or more DAILY interest.
They send you a copy of the judgment (which in many cases like mine, from a court in a town you don't live in)and order you to pay. Most people panic and pay....thus creating a $30Billion industry!
And if you do not pay, they freeze your bank account(s)and if you still do not pay they garnish your wages.
The people they have done this to are rising as one to bring this to the attention of government officials and the media. And will bring a class action suit.
